| Step 1 | Find an actual person who migrated to the US in the late 19th century | If you know of a family member or a specific person, you can use them. However, if you need to find someone, use the sources in the "Migrant Records" Box. While limited, these sources will have records such as passenger manifests and immigration logs. |
| Step 2 | Learn about this person |
Once selected, look over the information in the record you've chosen. Can you find any other records? Are you able to Google the person? Try to learn a little more about them. You can also create a narrative from the data provided on the person's life (e.g. kids, country of origin, profession (if one is listed), age, etc.) The library has resources (including books!) on immigration during the Gilded Age that will help you develop context for the environment many immigrants entered when arriving in the US. |
| Step 3 | Get to work |
See Assignment details. Do research as needed. If you run into issues finding details on your person, come speak with Mr. Reese and he'll help steer you towards some. FYI: Your local library will probably have access to numerous ancestry/genealogy resources that the school will not have. |
